This marine museum traces the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, designers and builders of the greatest racing and cruising yachts in the world. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, started in 1863 by John Brown Herreshoff and Nathanael Greene Herreshoff, was reknowned for its standards of design, engineering, and craftsmanship. The museum features many of their exquisite racing and cruising yachts, including Sprite, the oldest yacht in America (built in 1859). The America's Cup Hall of Fame presents the history and highlights the legends of this great racing tradition. The high-tech sophistication of the America Cup's racer America3 stands in sharp contrast to the quiet dignity of the traditional wooden craft.
